As king of breaks parties, Chew The Fat! tears strips out of The End’s main room sound system once a month. Fat! have been nobly carrying the torch for breakbeat at The End for almost three years now, and as summer reaches its zenith on Friday July 13th they will return to The End’s pulpit for another mindblowing session. Diversity is a valuable commodity in dance music these days, and with that in mind, Fat! have pulled together three guests of the highest quality, with varying sounds and styles, to play alongside their superb residents Paul Arnold and Kid Blue.
Rogue Element is one of the hottest properties in breaks. After bursting onto the scene in 2004 with releases on Nukleuz offshoot Beautiful Records and Exceptional Records, his tunes and remixes were being routinely hammered by every DJ on the scene. His rise in notoriety led to him winning ‘Best Breakthrough Producer’ at the 2005 Breakspoll Awards, and then following that up with a ‘Best Producer’ award at the 2006 ceremony. Quite an achievement, and one that confirmed his position as the most exciting producer in the breaks scene right now.
Joining Rogue Element in the main room will be Audiojack. Signed to the awesome 20:20 Vision Recordings, their music has the ideal blend of underground credibility and broad appeal, which has caught the attention of a wide spread of DJs, ranging from Adam Freeland to Craig Richards, Meat Katie to Erol Alkan, Steve Lawler to Luciano. The range of DJs playing Audiojack’s tracks is indicative of their notoriously tough-to-categorise sound – in fact one remix of theirs appeared in four different genre review sections in one particular magazine. Their style incorporates elements of house, minimal, techno, breaks, electro and more, all of which you can expect a sprinkling of on July 13th!
The final guest will be the awesome Blende, whose star is also in the ascendancy. His house and techno sounds are currently very much in demand, with a forthcoming collaboration with Dylan Rhymes, and remixes of Elite Force and The Klaxons on the way. Residents Paul ‘Trouble’ Arnold and cohort Kid Blue complete the main room line up.
One of the many great things about Chew The Fat! is its constantly changing lounge line ups. Recent lounge hosts have included the Nice Up and Innervisions crews, whilst July’s Fat! sees Fly Society taking over. Joining the Fly Society residents, whose speciality is a fine line in soul, hip hop, bootlegs, house and 80s groove, will be XFM’s bootleg king and all round music aficionado James Hyman, the legendary Dub Pistols main man Barry Ashworth, and Bristol’s Leisure Allstars who have been pedalling their brand of block rocking beats for some time now. One thing is guaranteed, as at every Fat!, the lounge is going to be all kinds of fun!
Chew The Fat! continues to hit the mark every month at The End, and the gang have recently announced that they’ll be spending their Sundays at Space in Ibiza this summer. This is a breaks crew still at the absolute top of their game, with cutting edge lineups that transcend the conventional boundaries of a typical breakbeat night. A living, breathing, clubbing legend!
