The End is eleven! To celebrate we’ll
be having a right ol’ knees up with
some of the End’s favourite residents
and a large helping of tasty guests. We’ll
be serving up a big fat musical cake with
Layo and Bushwacka!, Mr
C and the Dollz at Play
as the victoria sponge, Simple
Records with Will Saul,
Phonique and Sebo K
as the jam filling and Comeshakethewhole
with Stan Fontan, Chicken Lips,
Cosmo, Anu Pillai
and The Earlyman (live)
as the icing sugar on the top. Enough to
satisfy even the greediest kids at the party!
Layo and Bushwacka! have
been rocking the club every month with their
Olmeto residency, and 2006 also saw them
release their critically acclaimed third
album Feels Closer. The Bushwaka! mix of
Ride the Train is due out mid-December so
expect to hear a cheeky preview in the main
room, alongside dirty tech-house, breaks,
beats, electronic funk and everything in-between.
Mr C this year moved his
Superfreq residency to a weekly Sunday slot
in AKA - pulling in the clubland Freqs for
end-of-the-week-waywardness, aided and abetted
by his exceedingly glamorous assistants
the Dollz at Play and regular
surprise guests. He has also been producing
filthy electronic tracks with Adultnapper
under his Sycophant Slags moniker.
Simple records will be
giving us a taster of their new monthly
AKA residency for 2007. Label boss
Will Saul is currently stirring
up many a dancefloor with his rocking remix
of Content ‘It’s So’.
He’ll be joined in the Lounge by the
one of the year’s most prolific and
credible producers and remixers,
Phonique, who has recently remixed
Will Saul’s own ‘Pause’
track. Sebo K, who produces
heart-breakingly beautiful electro, including
his rather fine remix of King Roc’s
‘Welcome to Zion’, completes
the line up in the lounge.
Quirky electro knees-up Comeshakethewhole
will be hosting AKA for the birthday with
residents Stan Fontan and
Cosmo alongside special
guests Chicken Lips, Anu Pillai
(Freeform Five) plus an exclusive live PA
by electronic hip hop pioneers, The
Earlyman.
It’s been another amazing year at
the club with four new residencies launched
– Sven Vath’s Cocoon, Ibizan
nutbags Circo Loco’s parties, Timo
Maas’ 99% and Danny Howells’
Dig Deeper. A quick straw poll of the club’s
staff revealed too many highlights of the
year to mention them all, but any list would
have to include Andy Weatherall for Bugged
Out, German techno lord Sven Vath’s
8-hour set, Groove Armada and friends, the
Circo Loco bank holiday parties, the From
Dusk till Dawn boat party followed by Olmeto,
Chew the Fat!’s 9th birthday and Laurent
Garnier dropping in to Suprefreq to play
a surprise set in AKA last month.
As well as throwing hundreds of amazing
nights, The End also teamed up with Red
Bull in a ground-breaking project to raise
£70,000 to fund two studios at the
legendary refurbished Roundhouse. The End
Studios will allow large numbers of young
people to benefit from state- of-the art
equipment and the expertise of some of the
leading figures in electronic music to learn
skills in mixing and music production.
The only way to celebrate another year
of great parties is, of course, to have
another one! So dust off your best frock
and we’ll see you down the front!
